This is one half of the Ghana-girls (we are the scissor sisters Stéph
& Sév now- we decided we needed our own song) speaking - Stéphanie
and me are already back - it was a short mission especially for me
but a good one.
We both worked in a not-so-big hospital (+/- 60beds) somewhere in the
middle of nowhere (Binde rural hospital Ghana you do not find it on a
map but it's very near to the border with Togo in the north of
Ghana). There is a Belgiandoctor working there and he basically
needed all the help he could get.
We did a lot of different things (I applied again a plaster on a
broken wrist - this was 6 years ago!) the malaria season was just
starting (little children coming in fitting with a hematocrit of 12
and +++ parasitemia do you transfuse or not ? we reallyhadto apply
our knowledge from the course in reality ) we saw a lot of snakebites
(there is a very common viper there that gives clotting problems)
It was an experience with ups and downs (but far more ups than downs
don't worry) Steph and me got on really well together (I hope she
thinks the same about me)
Lots of love and happiness for Matteo and Mariza and of course for
Ilham's new-born baby (soooo cute.....)
I'll try to put this also on the tropical gazette blog
all the best for everyone wherever you may be and Clotilde, we are
with you in our thoughts....
big kiss Séverine
